Track and Field Practices
In track I did long jump and high jump. For the first couple of long jump practices, we practiced on getting our mark so we don't stutter when taking off. For next couple of weeks we practiced perfecting it and practicing technique (lifting up knee, keeping body upright, etc.). For high jump, we first practiced getting our mark again so we don't stutter or lose momentum when taking off. Then we practiced technique. There are 2 techniques. One is the scissor technique, it's where you just step over the bar (used for lower heights) and the is the flop where you arch your back and kick your feet up so you don't hit the bar. For practices, first we stretched then we just did a couple of jumps. Track and Field Meets The first meets were just to get in the qualifiers or eliminations, all you had to do was get a jump in. In the eliminations I faulted aa 3 for long jump but since only 7 people showed up, I got in because there are 8 spots at the cities. For high jump I got in eliminations and I easily got in by jumping 1.50m. At the cities, I got 2nd in long jump by jumping 4.96m and the first place was 5.5m. In high jump I got 3rd by jumping 1.55m. The meets were a very gun experience and learned lots of new things. MoreSports Soccer Volunteer This was basically teaching soccer to kids and coaching. There were like 5 sessions at Memorial Park and then at the end all the areas came to Trillium to compete. The area I volunteered in was Midtown. It was every Saturday for 3 hours. First we started by playing a big game for warm up, then we worked on some skills and fundamentals (passing , shooting, etc.) Then at the end we played games against other groups. At the soccer jam at Trillium we first helped with setting up then we just coached our teams when they played the other teams from other areas. The event was 10 hours so we got 10 hours.
