- great way for students to show their passion and great projects - very well organised - good space managment - very fun during the school time Things to improve on - longer breaks - shorten the length, 6 is too long maybe 4, not many people came after 3, got boring - exit interviews not effective, people weren't paying attention - music too loud - some people in corners couldn't be seen Overall - 8/10 Overall it was very good and fun but there were many things to improve on. For example, people got very tired and no one really came after 6. The music was pretty loud and no one was paying attention to the interviews. Also maybe change the location.

For this IDS I made an airboat. An airboat is a flat-bottomed vessel propelled by an aircraft-type propeller and powered by either an aircraft or automotive engine. They are commonly used for fishing, bow-fishing, hunting, and ecotourism. But I also combined a car. So it’ll be a boat and a car. I explored many different topics such as transportation engineering and transportation, electrical circuits, design process, and most importantly Newton’s laws of motion. My Project/Model I got the motor from a trimmer and I connected it to a 9V battery with connection wires. I just started thinking of ideas and I thought of something that works on land a water. Newton's Laws of Motion Newton’s First Law Newton’s Laws”of Motion help us to understand how airboats move. Newton’s 1st Law says that an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. When dropped into the water, the airboat does not move on its own, it needs the force of the propellers to move around. After the propellers have been turned on and the airboat has started moving, it will keep moving until it hits a wall or something gets in its way(an unbalanced force). Second Law The styrofoam airboat model moves quickly through the water because it is made of lightweight material. If the airboat were made of wood or metal, bigger propellers would be needed to move the airboat at the same speed as the styrofoam model. This follows Newton’s 2nd law: the greater the mass of the object being accelerated, the greater the amount of force needed to accelerate the object. Third Law Newton’s 3rd Law tells us that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The propellers of an airboat have been set up so that when they move, they throw air behind the boat. The action of the propellers creates an equal and opposite reaction pushing the boat forward. Changing the size of the propellers on the styrofoam model may also influence the speed of the airboat Process:

- the loitering stopped - got back to class on time - our groups float was accurate - communicate and talk to each other to prevent confusion - handled customers well Negatives - the float from previously groups was wrong a lot of times - people come from the exit door - supervisors were late and didn't show up many times - people didn't bring their shirts many times Self Evaluation - 9/10 - worked well with others in my group - handled customers well - did a good job of communicating with tally person when it got busy - helped with counting money - forgot leadership shirt sometimes Group Evaluation - 9/10 - communicated well, good teamwork - everyone helped with the jobs (counting money, filling up the water, re-stocking) - could've prevented people from coming through the exit door - forgot shirts sometimes - handled customers well Positives
-The food was delicious -Liked how they had fruits as snacks so it wasn't just breakfast, lunch , dinner -Learned important values (leadership, more with less, stewardship, etc.) -People overcame fears -Instructors were great. Explained everything very clearly -Activities were amazing and very fun -Overnight went well -Everyone was in rooms before curfew Things to improve -Accommodations (some people's rooms were very small like Mehtab's and Mischa's) -Not enough free time -People's concerns(someone when to top of the zip line when they had asthma) -some people forgot important gear (rain gear, sleeping pad, etc.) Self Evaluation I'm going to give myself a 9/10 because I was always prepared for the weather and was always on time. I also felt like I tried very hard on the activities and pushed myself until we finished what we were doing. I was on time in terms of curfew and our room's lights were out before 11. I also did well canoeing and kept going even when I was getting tired. Group Evaluation I'll give my group and 8.5/10 because we all listened well and followed instructions clearly. We all worked as a team and supported each other. One problem was that someone wasn't prepared and forgot there puffer for asthma. So he told them last minute when he was about to go on the zip line. Other than it was good. Everyone canoed very well and kept trying and didn't give up. Thoughts The human footprint video was about the amount of resources we use during our life time. The video explains and shows what we used. It's really impressive to see how much diapers we used and how much food and products we used. It also explains how all this affects the environment. It's depressing knowing how much trees, coal, water and oil we use to only make what we think are simple things. The most interesting thing I watched from this video was the making of the diaper. I didn't know that you needed so much ingredients to make a baby's diaper. I think that the video was pretty cool. It didn't seem that accurate to me because to me it seemed like too much, but it is. The video made me think about how much stuff we waste, so from now on I will recycle more and unplug electrical inputs when I'm not using them. One thing I felt like they could've done was address some solutions for these problems. Anyways, this was a great video and I recommend checking it out. Points of Interest

Landscape architecture is design of outdoor public areas, landmarks, and structures to achieve environmental, attractive and pleasing outcomes. I’ll be using Punch! Home & Landscape Design. With lots of planning will be designing a landscape design for a front yard. Eric will be designing a house. I will design it in a 2D blueprint and a 3D model. This is a 2D blueprint of the house. The big ferris wheel things are trees. If you notice, I didn't put them right over the plants because the plants need sun light. I put them near the fence so it kind of provides privacy.

- we work fast - handle customers well - kept track of what needed to be restocked and did it - solved problems - didn't mess up float - good teamwork Areas for improvement - people hang around, gets too crowded - people come from exit door - too loud sometimes Self Evaluation 9/10 - worked well with others - handled customers well - forgot shirt sometimes Class Evaluation 8/10 - people hang out and make it really crowded and loud - some groups mess up float - handle customers well - work together - some times people are off task My thoughts I have never thought about food so deeply after watching this. I have learned a lot from this documentary. After watching the documentary , I have become more aware about the intellectual nourishment I buy and eat, the environment, domestic fowl and livestock . I have realized that the nutrient I eat on a daily basis may affect my health in the hereafter . I have also realized that the food I eat may have bacteria which can kill me. I also realized that not every production that is advertised on television and in newspapers is healthy for me. The thing that most bothered me about Food, Inc. was the part about the firms hiring illegal workers. I think it is unfair, unjust, and morally wrong that the companies will hire these workers, and then turn them over to the police, who knew they were hiring illegals. As the documentary suggests, it does create some feeling of a secret police type system where everyone is plotting together against the illegal immigrants. The police shouldn’t take sides and with what they’re doing, it doesn’t seem like they’re doing their job correctly. The way I saw animals being raised is just horrible. It also bothers me a lot that the FDA have decreased the amount of safety checks by a lot. The boy dying just sadden me. How could something like this ever happen? It's also shocking to see how the top members in FDA are connected to these food corporations. This movie has definitely made me think twice about my food and it has influenced more of a healthy lifestyle upon me. I definitely recommend you go check it out. Action Web Interests and Questions
Values of this trip
-independence from our parents and doing things for ourselves (cooking, cleaning, managing) -bonding with others and build strong relationships (planning for food, cleaning, socializing) -most people probably would have never gone skiing or snowboarding if it wasn't for this trip -physical education and activities Areas For Improvement -Fundraising -shorting the length of the trip -finding a new location or a replacement trip Self Evaluation 9/10 I give myself 9 because I felt like I managed everything correctly (making food, waking up, etc.). I also helped as much as I could with cleaning the room washing the dishes and I gave my best during the lessons. In our room we all socialized and kept each other entertained. I didn't leave any garbage on the bus. Our room was a bit loud sometimes so that's why I deducted one mark. Class Evaluation 9/10 We managed well and did everything that had to be done. Everyone tried really hard at their lessons and on the bus it was clean. Everyone socialized with each other and we also helped the grade 8's in terms of schedule and stuff. The hallways were sometimes noisy and garbage was left so that's why I took off one mark. Chapter 1-Get in the Habit
This chapter was just an introduction and explains what will be coming up and how it can help you. It also tells a bit about Sean Covey and his dad's book. I think these habits can still be looked upon. These habits appear to be enduring. Chapter 2-Paradigms and Principles This chapter is about paradigms. It's about how it affects us. We can change the way we think if we change our paradigms. We should also eye ourselves around main titles. Don't centre yourself around principlas that let you down that do you no good. This is good advice because it's the kind that doesn't change no matter where you are. Chapter 3-The Personal Bank Account This chapter is about tapping into our talents and not be being selfish. If we help others, these things will get greater and will make us better people. Keep promises, do acts of kindness, renew yourself, be gentle and honest. This adivce and these ideas will not change anytime soon because these are personal qualities we inherit. Chapter 4-Habit 1-Be Proactive This chapter is about being reactive or proactive. It talks about the benefits about being proactive an the good it does us. It also talks about using self awareness, conscience, imagination, and willpower to make sure we don't become reactive. We have to slow things down and take a moment to think. This is a good habit to inherit because it helps you stay positive. Chapter 5-Habit 2-Begin With The End In Mind All things are created twice. We create them first in our minds, and then we work to bring them into physical existence. By taking control of our own first creation, we can write or re-write our own scripts, thus taking some control and responsibility for the outcome. Make the right choices in life. This advice is really good. Chapter 6-Habit 3-Put First Things First Don't procrastinate in life. Time management is an essential skill for personal management. The essence of time management is to organize and execute around priorities. An organized structure can be made of the characteristics of activities, classifying them as urgent or not urgent, important or not important. List the activities contributing to your mission, value or high-priority goals as important and do these first. This is good advice because if you do the important things first you will be ahead. Chapter 7-The Relationship Bank Account The RBA has the same concepts as the PBA but instead of having a relationship with yourself, the RBA is about relationships with others. Now it your choice if you want to make a positive or negative account. To do this, just like PBA, you have to make deposits or withdrawals. Be loyal, do kind things, etc. to keep, build and maintain a strong relationship. This advice is good for understanding others and keeping good relations. Chapter 8-Habit 4-Think Win-Win Don't get youself into a lose-lose or win-lose situation. Think win-win. In order to receive the benefits of interdependence, we need to create and care for the relationships that are the source of the benefits. We need to look for or create a win/win situation. This is still useful today. Chapter 9-Habit 5-Seek First to Understand Then to Be Understood Listening to others is very important because to communicate effectively, we must first understand each other. Seeking to understand is very important but so it seeking to be understood; you have to make sure to give feedback after listening to someone. This chapter is something anyone can learn from. Chapter 10-Habit 6-Synergize Habit 6 focuses on how synergy can create a better solution. You must celebrate diversity to get synergy. The essence of synergy is to value differences. The way to achieve synergy is through the creative process. Chapter 11-Habit 7-Sharpen the Saw The last habit talks about how the sharpening yourself allows you to excel in all the other habits which results in dealing with life better. To sharpen yourself, you should regularly renew and strengthen: the body, brain, heart, and soul. . By renewing the four dimensions of your nature, you can work more quickly and effortlessly. This advice is very good and most importantly, useful today. Chapter 12-Keep Hope Alive Keep working on these habits and don't give up. Even if you have to work harder than the people around you, it will all be worth it because all your hard efforts will pay off. |
